About these notes
This is a collection of co-reading notes for Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace (Little, Brown and Company, 1996). Page references (e.g., “pp. XXX”) refer to the first hardcover edition. Footnotes are indicated by their number (e.g., “fn. XXX”), not their page number.
The notes were originally compiled as a shared co-reading project by Rob Friesel (founddrama). This site is a fork of that original repository, migrated from nanoc to Jekyll and extended with an interactive relationship graph.
The book
Infinite Jest was first published in February 1996 by Little, Brown and Company. 1,079 pages including 388 endnotes. It is a very long book about addiction, entertainment, tennis, Quebecois separatism, and what it means to be a human being.
